Profit

In the Word of God, the book of Mark 8:36 states:

For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?

I looked up the literal meaning of the word profit in the Oxford Dictionary, it means to advance, it also means to benefit, and the word comes from the Latin word profectus, meaning progress.

We always tend to think that the word profit is a financial term, clearly it is much more than that. Jesus says, a man can even gain the whole world, and yet still lose his soul, so what is the purpose of working so hard at the expense of losing your life, your eternal life.

How many times have we seen that in men, good men, well-meaning men, who have literally worked themselves to death?

There is no profit in this foolish exercise. So, today, let us recalculate exactly where we are going, and if necessary, put some things down in order to invest in eternal life!
